The powerful terrorist bombing in Beirut’s Christian quarter of Ashrafiyeh, which occurred yesterday (Oct 19, 2012) and which led to the death of 8 people and the injury of around 120 others, targeted the chief of Lebanon’s Intelligence Unit of the Internal Security Forces, Col. Wissam Hassan.
Hassan, a Sunni Muslim, was instrumental in providing a security cover for the “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) terrorists taking refuge in northern Lebanon, an area used as a staging ground to launch attacks against the Syrian regime forces inside Syria.
Wissam Hassan was no friend of the Syrian regime, a fact that renders him unwanted by the Syrian government and by Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, Wissam Hassan was also instrumental in busting several Mossad spy cells inside Lebanon, a fact that makes him hostile to Israel’s intelligence agency as well.
In 2005, a similar joint CIA-Mossad operation that killed ex-prime minister Rafik al-Hariri took place and led to the rise to power of a Western-backed alliance that was opposed to Syria. After this Western-backed March 14 coalition lost its power in Lebanon in 2011, the West is trying to regain control of Lebanon through another false flag attack to frame the Syrian government and to facilitate the March 14 Alliance regaining control of the Lebanese government.
