On Thursday, Syria’s General Command of Army announced nationwide truce for Eid al-Adha. The ceasefire, backed by the United Nations and the Arab League, was supposed to go into effect on Friday morning and last until Monday.
The General Command, however, stressed it would respond to “terrorist groups trying to reinforce their positions by arming themselves and getting reinforcements” as well as neighboring countries facilitating the smuggling of fighters across borders during that period.
