At least 6 civilians were killed, 25 others wounded as Islamist rebels fired a barrage of mortars and homegrown missiles into the government held districts of Ashrafiyah, Nile Street, Mokambo and Al-Khalidiyah, in the northern city of Aleppo.
Local activists said most of the dead and injured are women and children since the districts targeted are purely residential, with no Army barracks or positions except for a few regular checkpoints. Buildings which have been hit by Hell Cannons were almost entirely ravaged, with civilians are still under the rubbles.
This may more likely increase the number of victims. In response, the Syrian air force conducted several airstrikes against the launching sites in rebel-held districts of Al-Layramoun, Bani Zeid and the Youth Housing, destroying launchers and killing scores of Islamist militants. Hardline militants operating under the Turkish0-backed Nour Eddine Al-Zenki Movement, al-Qaeda Syrian branch Jabhet al-Nusra, and FSA-affiliated Division 16, control large swathes of the city’s northern countryside and adjacent neighbourhood.
