Moments ago, a suicide bomber purportedly loyal to the Islamic State detonated his explosive device at a Jaish al-Islam base in the rebel-held town of al-Dumayr in the eastern Qalamoun.

A total of 16 people have been killed according to the preliminary report, including 8 members of Jaish al-Islam. Sadly, women and children were also among the casualties. Two ISIS factions otherwise left the town for Raqqa in April, taking with them more than 440 locals affiliated with the Islamic State in one way or another. Nevertheless, ISIS sleeper cell still remain inside the town as transpires today.

The region recently drew headlines after a Syrian pilot was executed by Jabhat al-Nusra despite being held in Jaish al-Islam custody.
