US-backed militants from the Nour al-Din al-Zenki group who were responsible for beheading a teenage boy have appeared in an online video posted by the organisation’s official channel.
Posted on 8th August, the video purports to show the fighters after intense clashes this week in the Ramouseh area of Aleppo. One of the fighters featured in the video was also recorded during the brutal beaheading Abdullah Tayseer, a 13-year old Palestinian boy, near Handarat refugee camp in Syria.
In a statement published after the incident, Harakat Nour al-Din al-Zenki condemned the execution and claimed it was an “individual mistake that does not represent the general policy of the group”. It claimed that it had also detained all of those involved having established a judicial committee to investigate the incident and issue a verdict “as soon as possible”.
On 4th August, the Russian Defence Ministry reported that “militants from the Harakat Nour al-Din al-Zenki group, considered by Washington as ‘moderate opposition”, fired chlorine-filled shells into the Salahuddin residential district in eastern Aleppo on Monday 3rd August.
In 2014-2015, the militant group reportedly received US-made anti-tank missiles.
