BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:50 P.M.) – The high-ranking Syrian Arab Army commander, General Mohammad Khaddour, has reportedly returned to the Deir Ezzor Governorate after a year-long hiatus.

General Khaddour was originally the commander of the Syrian Arab Army’s 17th Reserve Division, which was initially headquartered in Al-Raqqa and later moved to Deir Ezzor after the former was captured by the Islamic State.

A military source told Al-Masdar News on Wednesday that the recent move to send General Khaddour to Deir Ezzor was made by the Syrian Arab Army’s High Command.

The military source added that General Khaddour was transported to Deir Ezzor via a helicopter yesterday; this was done during the brief four hours the Syrian Arab Army had control of the territory north of the helicopter fields.
