A prisoner swap deal was concluded today between the Syrian government and Islamist rebels, with each side pledged to release 54 women detainees.

According to the agreement, the Islamic insurgents will set free 54 women who were kidnapped from northern Latakia countryside in 2013, in exchange for the same number of women imprisoned by Syrian authorities.

Sources confirmed that 15 women have made it to the rebel-held Qalaat al-Madiq town in northeast of Hama, where they are supposed to be transferred to the government-controlled area by mediation of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

On August 2013, a coalition of Free Syrian Army and Salafist groups launched a powerful assault to conquer Al-Haffah city. Rebel forces captured several Alawite-inhabited villages, brutally massacring and kidnapping hundreds of civilians.
