BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:55 P.M.) – The Shaheen Group of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) reportedly left the western countryside of Palmyra to join the Tiger Forces at the east Aleppo front, a military source informed Al-Masdar News this afternoon.

The Shaheen Group, one of the Tiger Forces’ most battle hardened units, spent the last three months fighting the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists inside the Palmyra countryside.

However, due to the recent deployment of the Syrian Arab Army’s newly formed 5th Legion, the Shaheen Group was given instructions to head north to help with the east Aleppo offensive.

Unlike other units from the Tiger Forces, the Shaheen Group is often split apart from the primary division due to their relative size and power.

The Shaheen Group played a role in several important Syrian Army offensives in 2015 and 2016, including the government’s northern Hama counter-attack and the lifting of the Kuweires Military Airport siege.

Recently, the Shaheen Group was fighting alongside the Syrian Arab Army’s 18th Tank Division near the Hayyan Gas Fields; they played an integral role in the liberation of the Jihar Crossroad.
